PALM BEACH ESTATE FIND!! Magnificent and iconic Robert “Rahway” Zakanitch Fine Art Serigraph, signed and dated 1985 lower right. This is an Artists Proof numbered 1/15. Colors are strong and bright and the print shows no signs of damage, having been kept under glass since it was purchased. Framed nicely in white-washed wood under glass, overall measurements 39” x 31.5”. The piece itself measures 30” x 22”.

Robert Zakanitch (born 1935) is an American painter and was one of the founders of the Pattern and Decoration movement. His work is held in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. In the late 1960s he began experimenting with Color Field painting and is one of the founders of the Pattern and Decoration movement in the mid 1970s. While working in the Color Field, he was strict to adhering to an abstract style inspired by Minimalism until he learned about decorative imagery. He kept the same color schemes and structures, but incorporated floral motif and a more painterly style.

Pattern and Decoration was a United States art movement from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. The movement has sometimes been referred to as "P&D" or as The New Decorativeness. The movement was championed by the gallery owner Holly Solomon.
