Victor Brauner (1903-1966) was a Romanian painter and sculptor and one of the most important members of the Romanian avant-garde. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest from 1916 to 1918. Soon after, he began painting landscapes and, as he put it, went through all the "Dadaist, Abstractionist, Expressionist" idioms ultimately creating his own unique style of naïve Surrealism.

Alexandre Iolas (1908-1987) was an esteemed gallerist who championed the careers of many important Modern artists, including Andy Warhol, René Magritte, Max Ernst, Giorgio de Chirico, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely and many more.
