Granville Fisher (1906-1988) Circa 1950s Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting. Breathtaking work, with layered abstractions and heavy impasto, it is a tour-de-force of Midcentury Modernism! The pictures don’t do it justice. Measures 29.5” x 23.5” overall framed.

There is an original price of $150 on the reverse as well as the name J. DOLINGER written (I believe) by the artist. I think this refers to Jane Dolinger, a dynamic and unconventional woman of her time, who authored numerous books and thousands of articles about her exotic and often dangerous travel adventures. She was also a famous pin-up model and frequent cover girl for mens “pulp” magazines of the 1950s (see photo). She lived in Miami Florida towards the end of her life and I believe this was from her estate.

Dr. Granville Fisher also led a fascinating life. He was a renowned criminologist of the 1950s while with the Psychology department at the University of Chicago. Later, he was the head of the Psychology department at the University of Miami. An accomplished painter, he opened an art gallery in Coral Gables. His paintings ranged from Realism to Impressionism to Modern Abstract Expressionism.
